Italian Ports of call

How to get into town (or to major sightseeing opportunities) from major ports of call: Civitavecchia/Rome, Livorno/Florence/Pisa, Venice, Naples

Your cruise itinerary might say it stops in "Rome and Florence."

It does not.

It actually stops in Civitavecchia and Livorno, each of which is more than an hour away from Rome or Florence, respectively.

In other cases, such as Naples, you do dock more or less downtown, but you may actually want to go elsewhere—like Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, or Capri.

Here's how to bridge those gaps and get either into town, to nearby sights, and to and from the airport from some major Italian ports of call.
