A chairlift ride (or stiff hike) to stupendous views on Capri's highest peak
The view from atop Monte Solaro, Capri. The statue is Emperor Augustus. (Photo © 2009, Pilise Gábor.)At 1945 feet, Monte Solaro is Capri's highest point, sporting a romantically ruined little 1806 British castle (built medieval-style) that offers dreamy island vistas and a ★ panorama of coastal Italy that on clear days stretches as far as Calabria to the south and north almost to Rome.
The ski lift–like seggovia up takes 12 minutes, an enjoyable experience of dangling your feet just above the rooftops and kitchen gardens of Anacapri, followed by olive groves and little vineyards, which eventually give way to the macchia scrubland along the higher slopes. Keep your camera ready (just don't drop it).

Since the cost of a round-trip ticket (€9) is only a bit more than a one-way ticket (€7), you can easily forgo the walk and ride the chairlift both ways if you'd like.
