Capri Logistics FAQ

How to get to Capri by ferry and hydrofoil from Naples, Sorrento, and the Amalfi Coast

Capri is an island, so the only way to get here is by boat—either a slow traghetto (ferry), a faster Nave Veloce,or the fastest aliscafo/Jet (hydrofoil).

The faster the boat, the higher the ticket price (ferries cost a bit more than half as much as hydrofoils).

The ride takes anywhere from 20 min to 1 hr. 20 min and and costs from €12.70 to €20.50—depending on the speed and the point of departure (details below). Service on a given line is roughly hourly form Naples or Sorrento—though with several competing lines, you rarely have to wait more than 30 minutes for the next boat.

There are several ferry companies and consortiums connecting Capri to Naples, Sorrento, and (seasonally) Amalfi and Positano.

Since you probably don't care which company you use—you just want a convenient departure time at the lowest ticket price— check many at once on the Capri tourism website (, which conveniently lists all departures, in order, along with the companies and ticket prices for better comparison shopping.

The price of a ticket has too many factors—company, speed, baggage fees (add €1.50–€3 each) whether a given run is OSP (required by law; cheapest)—to put down precisely, but here are are the cost ranges, frequency of boats (in high season), time of transit, and ferry companies:

To Capri from... Fast ferry/slow ferry Tickets Daily runs Companies
Naples 45 min/50–80 min €12.70–€20.50 27,
Sorrento 20 min/30 min €13–€17 34,,
Positano 30 min/60 min €17–€18 8,,
Amalfi 60 min/85 min €19–€20 6,
