FAQ
The highest prices on rooms in Amalfi are applied during the high season, which in Amalfi usually runs June through September.
Many hotels close for at last part of the winter low season. January and February are the most popular months to shut down, though some close in October or November and don't reopen until Easter (or at least sometime between March and May).
★★ Hotel Residence [€€€–€€€€] - Grand Dame of an old hotel overlooking the harbor. I always be sure to book ahead for this tiny room (pictured to the right) with a frescoed ceiling and a balcony overlooking the busy harborfront piazza and the beach and sea beyond. The rest of the hotel is atmospherically dim and crowded with wonderfully faded olde world elegance. Via delle Repubbliche Marinare 9, Amalfi...» more ![]()
★★ Residenza del Duca [€€–€€€] - This tiny inn of six rooms (plus one apartment) in a thousand-year-old palazzo gets two stars for being central (in the tangle of streets just across from the cathedral), sumptuously furnished (gilded scrollwork on the bed frames, richly upholstered antique-repro sofas and chairs, modest chandeliers), and yet—and this is what gets it the second star—it charges laughably low rates. Via Mastaio Il Duca (just west of the Duomo), Amalfi... » more ![]()
★ Hotel Marina Riviera [€€–€€€€] -Partly carved into the rock on an outward curve of the Amalfi Drive leading east out of Amalfi, the Marina Riviera overlooks Amalfi's beach side, and yet the Duomo is still just a four-minute stroll away. All of the largish accommodations overlook the sea and are filled with light and cool breezes off the waters, enhanced by the whirring ceiling fans. Via P. Comite 9, Amalfi...» more ![]()
★ Hotel Miramalfi [€€€] -Built to take advantage of its panoramic position on the cliffs below the Amalfi Drive, the Miramalfi is a 5–10 minute walk west from the center of town and boasts four-star amenities and stupendous vistas that make it worth the splurge. The guest rooms are spacious and airy, and decorated in a Mediterranean style. Gauzy curtains part to reveal small private terraces with fantastic views of the sea, Amalfi, and on clear days the Cliento coast beyond. Via Quasimodo 3, Amalfi... » more ![]()
Hotel Amalfi [€€–€€€] - Run by seven siblings (who also own the Residenza del Duca, described above), the Amalfi sits in the casbah of whitewashed streets just off the main drag. It's a basic hotel, but clean and roomy. Via dei Pastai 3 (about halfway up the main road in town, look for a sign pointing up a stair/street off to the left), Amalfi... » more ![]()
Albergo Sant'Andrea [€€] - Simple place directly across the square from the cathedral. Book early for rooms 2–5 with full Duomo views (and a bit of piazza noise, through Amalfi quiets down pretty quickly at night). Piazza Duomo 1, Amalfi... » more
