Giovanni Dupré was one of the greatest sculptors in 19th century Italy, and his descendants have filled this 14th-century palazzo with several of his pieces.
(Also, in a niche on the breakfast room, look for an early study by Giambologna for his famous Rape of the Sabine—this version without the third figure cowering underneath.)
There's a certain old-world elegance to the richly decorated sitting and breakfast rooms and the gravel-strewn garden of this palazzo. They try their best to keep the whole place looking like a private home, and many rooms have the original painted wood ceilings, as well as antique furniture and richly textured wallpaper or fabrics.
This—coupled with the fine art—help make this one of the most genuinely elegant hotels in Florence (as opposed to most, overpriced luxury properties where lavish expenditures are used as a substitute for class ).
The garden is lovely, the Renaissance lounges are gorgeous, and the rooms are spacious and loaded with antique style.
In 2002, they restructured 15 additional rooms in another, recently acquired building bordering the courtyard and dubbed it "La Limonaia," with rooms overlooking the garden.
