Florence's official IYH hostel is located in the woods a ways outside the city center (figure 20 minutes by bus/walk), but worth it for the budget-strained.
The name doesn't lie—this really is a 15th century countryside villa with an outdoor loggia, amazing Reniassance lobby, and surrounded by greenery.
The rooms are pretty regulation hostel bland but livable. The shared dorm rooms are segrgated by sex, and each room has just 4 or 8 beds from €13–€16 per person.
There are also private rooms sleeping two (from €30) or three (from €54).
You can check in after the lockout (9am–2pm in summer, 9am–3pm in winter), and curfew is midnight.
Note: Unlike many hostels, there is no communal kitchen (though they do have an on-site restaurant, and the osteria/pizzeria at the end of the road isn't bad).
