Sadly, my favorite restaurant in Taormina, U Bossu, closed a few years ago—but you certainly won't lack for places to dine in this touristy town. (At least my local pub for overpriced beer, decent snacks, and blessed Internet access is still going strong: O'Seven, Largo la Farina/Corso Umberto just west of the clock tower on Piazza IX Aprile, tel. +39-0942-24-980).

Vicolo Stretto ★- This trendy spot is just off the main drag, but a hidden world away with its bow-tied waiters, smart service, and covered roof terrace blessed by breezes and a view over terra-cotta roof tiles to the town clock tower... Il Ciclope - Salvatore Sturiale's restaurant is right on the main drag, but in the medieval part of town beyond the gate, so there's less of a log-jam of tourist traffic passing the shaded terrace fronting the street. Al Giardino - Friendly Sebastiano Puglia and his son Daneile really care about his simple, tasty dishes. There are only a dozen small tables scattered on the patio out front, shaded by an awning dripping with flowers, so call ahead if you want one... La Botte - La Botte is a bit more expensive than it should be, but the setting's terrific—either in stuccoed rooms lined with photos of noted patrons or in nice weather under umbrellas on a quiet, breezy little piazza off Taormina's beaten passeggiata path.
