Milan by car

Getting to and around by car and parking in Milan, Italy

You don't want to drive in Milan. Seriously: just get rid of the rental car and take public transportation.

Plus, Milan now charges a €5 per day "congestion charge" for anybody driving into the center of town, which you must pay at any garage or parking meter (read all about it at www.comune.milano.it).

True, Milan is probably the easiest Italian city in which to drive—wide roads, sensible plan—but it's still driving in a big Italian city, which mean heavy traffic, aggressive drivers, and limited parking.

Parking in Milan

Milan does not have those nifty public parking garages most of Italian cities have implemented, just private ones that, in the center, charge around €50 per day. You can find them at www.parcheggi.it.
