Where to grab a quick, cheap meal—Pizza rustica, street food, and fast food in Sorrento

You can get fairly quick meals, even full ones, at a tavola calda (a cafe serving hot dishes by weight), most bar/caffés (panini are sandwiches, tramezzini giant triangle sandwiches), pizza rustica (pizza by the slice), and rosticcerie (like a tavola calda, but with roasted chicken as well), and Sorrento doesn't lack for food on the go either.

Italians often make a snack out of a loaf of bread and chuck of cheese. Most shops will put together a simple sandwich for you to take away (da portar via)—or assemble the ingredients yourself for a picnic.

Here are some sports in Sorrento for a quick sandwich, pizza, or take-away meal:

In the historic center

  • Just Made (Fatto mo mò) - A new organic/localavore/natural foods cafeteria and sandwich shop right on the main passeggiata drag at via San Cesareo 78 (Just-made-fatto-mo-mo.business.site, tel. 081-877-2095).
  • Kebab Ciampa - Kebabs meet panini (with fries) at Via Santa Maria della Pieta 23 (Kebabsorrento.com, tel. 081-807-4595).
  • Bar L'incanto - A bar with some basic snacks and sandwiches conveniently across from the cathedral at Via Corso Italia 83 (Facebook.com..., tel. 338 630 9244).

Near the train station

  • Jhonny Pizza & Sfizi - Wood-fired pizzas, panini, rice balls, calzone, and other inexpensive sfizi you can take away or eat at a booth in the Brady Bunch–era dining room around the corner from the train station at Corso Italia 255d (Facebook.com..., tel. 081 878 5773). (Also, when I was little this is how I (mis)spelled Johnny, so I can relate.)
  • Zi Guglielmo - "Uncle William's" is a take-away rosticceria/pizzeria joint—pizza, roasted chicken, potto croquettes, basic prepared dishes, etc.—on the road behind the train station at Via Degli Aranci 138 (Facebook.com..., tel. 081-1925-9363)

Tips

About the restaurant star ratings (☆☆☆ to ★★★)

You will notice that all restaurants (and sights and hotels) on this site have a ReidsItaly.com star designation from ☆☆☆ to ★★★.

This merely indicates that I feel these eateries offer a little something that makes them special (or extra-special, or extra-extra special, etc.).

These star ratings are entirely based on personal opinion, and have nothing to do with any official local restaurant ratings or grades.

In general, a pricier restaurant has to impress me that it is worth the added expense.

This is why I give ★★★ to some inexpensive eateries or sandwich shops that happen provide amazing value for the money—and similarly have ranked a few fancy but notable restaurants just ★★☆.

About the restaurant price brackets (€–€€€)

Here at ReidsItaly.com we simply provide a general price range indicating the general amount you should expect to pay for a full meal in the eatery.

Each eatery is rated into a price category, which indicates—very roughly—what you could expect to pay, per person, for a standard full meal: Three courses—primo (first course), secondo (main course), and contorno (side) or dolce (dessert)—plus something to drink.

There are three price ranges, giving you a sense of which restaurants are budget, which are moderate, and which are splurges:

under €15
€€ under €40
€€€ over €40

* You can use this formula for all Italian ten-place numbers—so 31 is trent'uno, 32 is trenta due, 33 is trenta tre, etc. Note that—like uno (one), otto (eight) also starts with a vowel—all "-8" numbers are also abbreviated (vent'otto, trent'otto, etc.).
