Welcome to my humble abode in the heartlands of Singapore.
As a housewife, I enjoy cooking rustic meals for my family. In the last 20 years, I have gone through many recipes as chief cook for my household and while my meals are not fancy, they are hearty, nutritious and satisfying. I specialise in authentic Cantonese cuisine, and also enjoy preparing local Singaporean favourites.
In the Cantonese cooking, simplicity is everything, and there is rarely addition of too many ingredients, but each ingredient will bring out complementary flavours guaranteed to satiate your tastebuds. But for local dishes, we are looking for lots of flavour, and that is what you will get to taste.
Join me for a workshop that showcases two popular Singaporean dishes and try your hand at preparing condiments for Popiah (Spring Rolls wrapped with braised vegetables and dried shrimp). We will be going through each component that makes up this seemingly simple dish, and you will soon find out there is more than meets the eye. And perhaps we can get into a little wok action for the Stir-fried Hokkien Mee (noodles stir-fried with prawn stock).
You will also get to sit down and enjoy a 3-course meal after the cooking is done, and I will also show you how to wrap your own Popiah like a local, complete with sweet sauce and my very own homemade chilli sauce.
We will be having a 3-course meal:
- D-I-Y Popiah
With filling made from braised jicama, carrots turnips and dried shrimp and served with condiments including fresh lettuce, bean sprouts, shredded omelette, sweet sauce, chilli sauce.
- Stir-fried Hokkien Mee
Noodles stir-fried with pork and prawns and braised with prawn stock.
- Mango Sago Pomelo.
This dessert is made with fresh mango, pomelo segments, chewy pearl sago bits and cream. It is served chilled and is tangy, creamy and refreshing.
*The menu contains seafood and pork. If you have any dietary restrictions, kindly notify in advance.
Heart of the experience will be in the biggest market in Italy, for many tastings and some great food shopping.
A real hit will be the stop at the artisanal pasta shop "Pica", because we are the only ones allowed to go inside ;) and the amazing rooftop surrounded by flowers and a 360 ° view of Rome and Saint Peters Dome.

Taste typical Italian espresso at a local coffee roasters, learn about local Roman wine and cheese and taste the best gelato in town as you get the inside scoop on the many historic and gastronomic highlights of Italys enchanting capital city.
Your dolce vita adventure begins where the famous film was written by Italys greatest film director, Federico Fellini. Ready for an injection of movie glamour yet? Well pass by the home of Fellini where he lived with his actress wife Giulietta Masina and as we do well talk a little of about his life and career. Staying with the Hollywood theme, well then check out the house that stood in as Gregory Pecks home in the iconic Audrey Hepburn movie Roman Holiday. Fun fact: this is the first Hollywood film to be entirely filmed on location in Rome. Nearby, well stumble across the apartment where Pablo Picasso lived, over 100 years ago.
An espresso stop at a local caffe that was once the private art studio of Antonio Canova , a well-known and respected sculpture artist of the 19th century, is up next. Admire the elaborate marble sculpture as you enjoy a true Roman Espresso (your guide will teach you how to order it, the Roman way) and listen to your guide talk about Italian coffee culture and the many local roasters that have sprung up around the city centre.
Our next stop is the Monumental Staircase. A total of 135 steps lead to the Trinita del Monti church that overlooks the Spanish Steps and the Barcaccia Fountain by Bernini. As we wind our way through the atmospheric Roman streets, heading towards the Trevi fountain, well stumble across one of our favourite wine bars, where we will stop to taste local wine from the foothills of Rome, accompanied by local salumi, cheese (including Pecorino Romano) and delicious focaccia bread.
It couldnt be a dolce vita themed tour without a visit to the world-famous Trevi Fountain, which has become the stuff of legend since Anita Ekbergs midnight frolic caused an international sensation in the 1960 movie thats given our tour its title.
Next up, well pass through a shopping gallery dedicated to Roman legend and comedy actor, Alberto Sordi only to arrive at the Pantheon, one of the worlds greatest and best preserved Roman temples. In the 7th century AD it was transformed into a church and remains one of the most astonishing sights in Rome; guarenteed take your breath away. Dont forget to admire the beautiful fountain outside too, crafted by Giacomo della Porta.
Your taste of the Roman good life will end at the Piazza Navona, site of the spectacular Four Rivers fountain by Bernini. Before you go, dont forget to ask your expert local guide for more tips on what else to see, do and eat during your stay in ravishing Rome.

* You can use this formula for all Italian ten-place numbers—so 31 is trent'uno, 32 is trenta due, 33 is trenta tre, etc. Note that—like uno (one), otto (eight) also starts with a vowel—all "-8" numbers are also abbreviated (vent'otto, trent'otto, etc.).
