Florence taxi cabs

The taxi cabs of Florence—plus car services, private transfers, and chauffeur services

Florence is really quite small, so taxis are most useful to get you and your bags between the train station and your hotel in the virtually bus-less centro storico.

There is a cab rank outside the train station, and often a few taxis are parked near the top tourist sights.

Otherwise, you have to call for a Radio Taxi (dial one of the numbers below from any local phone), since in Italy you don't just hail cabs on the street.

How much do taxis in Florence charge?

  • Within Florence, the flag fall (what it costs simply to get in the cab) is €3.30 ($4) Mon–Sat, €5.30 ($6) Sundays and holidays, and €6.60 ($8) between 10pm and 6am.
  • The minimum charges vary by day/time: €5 ($6) (Mon-Sat), €7 ($8) (Sun), and €8.30 ($10) (10am–6am).
  • The scatto (per-unit charge) is a set €0.10 ($0) any day or time, but the units vary depending on how long the ride takes. Up to the first €6.40 ($8) of the fare, the €0.10 ($0) is charged for each 110km (or 15 seconds of idling). Then up to €7.40 ($9) it is for every 110m (or 12 .sec), after which you pay €0.10 ($0) every 61m or 12 sec.
  • There is also a €1 ($1) fee for any bag large enough it goes in the trunk.
  • There is a radio taxi charge of €2.20 ($3) for calling a cab to come get you.
  • Three or more people in a cab negotiate a fixed fare, starting at €7 ($8) per person.
  • Between 9pm and 2am, solo women get a 10% discount.
  • You also get a 15% discount for rides to any Florence hosptial.
  • Remember to add a small tip to any fare (round up the final fare, or around 10%).

Do not use a taxi for the airport

Do not use a taxi cab to get to or from a Florence. The service is great, sure, but it is incredibly expensive—and wholly unneccesary.
