One of the three medieval towns in the original Lega del Chianti and still an important wine center
Radda retains its medieval street plan and a bit of its walls.
The center of town is the 15th-century Palazzo del Podestà, studded with the mayoral coats of arms of past podestà.
As in a few other Chianti towns, we have a local butcher who is a true artisan, in Radda’s case Luciano Porciatti and his sister. They’ll give you a taste of traditional salamis and cheeses at their alimentari on Piazza IV Novembre 1–3 at the gate into town (tel. 0577-738-055; Casaporciatti.it). They also sell local products, from wines to pasta, at their enoteca along Radda’s tunnel-like old soldier’s wall walk.
The Castle of Monterinaldi settlement, in the commune of Radda in Chianti, is in the heart of the oldest historical area of the Chianti Classico situated near an ancient Etruscan route. Regarding the history of this ancient place, a document written in December 1010, refers to a Count Gottifredo Gottizio, of Lombardic descent and Lord of Monterinaldi.
Is wine your passion? Enjoy your private tour and become part of Monterinaldi by visiting the cellars, tasting the wines and learning the production philosophy. Pair the wines with local
homemade food and enjoy real Tuscan flavors.
The sommelier will take you to a private tour of the cellar with a full explanation of Monterinaldi's winemaking followed by a homemade full lunch in the 1700s villa complete with a guided tasting of
4 different wines and
vinsanto (dessert wine).

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product
Chianti wine is one of the Tuscan excellence, produced already in the Etruscan period and exported to England since 1600, born from the Sangiovese vine variety to which Canaiolo, Malvasia and Trebbiano grapes are united. Chianti's "recipe" dates back to the 19th century when the Iron Baron Bettino Ricasoli decided to set the quantities, beginning with the norms that will then fall into the Doc and Docg brands.
The territory of the Chianti Classico is between Florence and Siena, two cities that have fought for these lands for centuries. The wine is strongly linked to the terroir, the close relationship between vines, soil, climate, cultivation methods, a knowledge that has been handed down for centuries. By visiting these untouched villages you will taste the magic of the place and deepen the methods of winemaking and ageing to discover (almost) all the secrets of a wine!
The first stop is Panzano in Chianti, where you will immerse yourself in a postcard landscape between hills and vineyards. We will then move to Radda in Chianti, the historical seat of the Chianti League, founded in 1384 by the Florentine Republic. In the climate of eternal conflict between Florence and Siena, here is the legend of the Black Rooster on a gold background, a symbol of Chianti.
The wine tasting will take place in a typical winery, a totally organic cellar in both vineyards and the cellar! Wine tasting:
- 1 glass of white Chianti
- 1 glass of red Chianti Classico
- 1 glass of red Chianti Classico "Riserva"
All these wines will be accompanied by typical Tuscan appetizers.
Duration: 6 hours
Location: Chianti Road, Tuscany
we are proud to offer an unforgettable one-day road cycling adventure in the heart of the Chianti Classico area.
Our 40km one day taster menu will see you collected from your hotel and transferred to Borgo Sicelle where we will set you up on one of our finely tuned De Rosa Idol carbon frames with Campagnolo groupsets and set off into the countryside.
The route takes us through the enchanting medieval towns of Radda in Chianti and Castellina in Chianti where we will stop as the locals do for a coffee and look around the historical centers before heading back out onto the very roads used in the Giro DItalia. The last leg of cycle will be a long sweeping descent with incredible panoramic views over Chianti before the short climb back up to the villa.
Having burned some calories and taken in the beautiful views that Chianti has to offer we shall stop at Fattoria Montecchio for some well deserved lunch and wine tasting. Finally, full of wine, photos and hopefully ever lasting memories we will take the short drive back to Florence.

* You can use this formula for all Italian ten-place numbers—so 31 is trent'uno, 32 is trenta due, 33 is trenta tre, etc. Note that—like uno (one), otto (eight) also starts with a vowel—all "-8" numbers are also abbreviated (vent'otto, trent'otto, etc.).
