How to get from Naples airport to the Amalfi Coast

The closest airport to the Amalfi Coast is in Naples, about 1–2 hours away

Naples airport to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast by public transport (75 min; €10 ($12)–€14 ($17))

There's a shuttle bus service run by Curreri Viaggi (, tel. 081-801-5420) that leaves every hour between 9am and 1pm, and again from 2:30 to 7:30pm.

It costs €10 ($12) and takes 75 minutes to get from the Naples airport to the Sorrento train station (whcuh si also where you can catch the Amalfi Coast buses).

From Sorrento, you can catch an Amalfi Coast bus (€1.80 ($2)–€3.40 ($4)) to continue on to the Amalfi Coast town of your choice.

Costs from Naples' airport into Campania
Taking a taxi from the airport to go beyond Naples itself quickly becomes a pricey proposition. Here are the official flat rates for a taxi transfer, alongside those of a private transfer (since you pay by the vehicle, the higher number is for just two people, the lower number is for 8 people; for every number in between, just imagine a sliding scale).

Destination Taxi Private transfer
Naples €18 ($21)–€25 ($30) €10 ($12)–€25 ($30)
Sorrento €110 ($130) €18 ($21)–€59 ($70)
Amalfi €140 ($165) €24 ($28)–€69 ($81)
Positano €130 ($154) €22 ($26)–€135 ($159)
Pompeii €100 ($118) €16 ($19)–€47 ($56)
Vesuvius €100 ($118) €60 ($71)–€191 ($226)
Ravello €145 ($171) €22 ($26)–€135 ($159)
Amalfi Coast tour €230 ($272) €68 ($80)–€212 ($250)

Don't take a taxi to the Amalfi Coast

It costs a whomping €110 ($130) to take a taxi from the Naples airport to Sorrento, €130 ($154) to Positano, €140 ($165) to Amalfi, €145 ($171) to Ravello.

I've crunched the numbers, and for two or three people, a taxi costs about the same as a private car service—though you do have to wait in the taxi line, rather than just finding the guy with your name on a sign waiting just past the luggage pick-up area.

(For more than three people—who will have to split up into two taxis—a car service will usually be cheaper.)

Private transfers to the Amalfi Coast (60–75 min; from €18 ($21))

Between the Naples airport and Pompeii or the Amalfi Coast:

The price varies widely depending on how far you are going and how many in your party, from as little as $21–$28 per person for 6–8 people to get to Sorrento, and as high as $70–$75 per person for two people to get to a town on the Amalfi Coast itself.
