Glide around the amazing beauties of Naples on a Segway while sampling some of the great tastes of Naples at local bars and food shops. Enjoy the most characteristic locales and flavors of one of Italys premier gastronomic capitals. Taste an original Pizza Margherita in the city where it was invented. Once you fall in love with the recipe (you will), you can ask the guide about how to bake it at home. You will not leave hungry after the delicious food tasting stops.
Meet your guide in the morning near Castel Nuovo, an imposing fortress and former royal residence that is known locally as the Maschio Angioino. Then, together with your guide and small group, take a walk into the heart of historical Naples to experience the citys unique street food.
As you wander, hear stories about Naples' history and its renowned cuisine, and look out for local landmarks including the grand Teatro di San Carlo, Europes longest running opera house. Make your first stop in a cafe opposite the opera, where you'll take part in a Neapolitan morning tradition and drink a short and strong Italian espresso.
Move on to the expansive Piazza del Plebiscito and cast your eyes upon the collection of impressive monuments that surround it, including the striking and enormous façade of the Royal Palace of Naples. Enter the nearby Galleria Umberto I, a stunning 19th-century shopping mall with a beautiful glass roof and mosaic floor. While in here, munch on a sweet treat a fresh and hot sfogliatella pastry made with delicious layers of soft, flaky dough.
Wipe away any remaining crumbs and continue on to a nearby food market. Be introduced to an array of local specialties and browse the fresh produce at the greengrocer and fish stands. Taste another street food snack, which changes depending on season and availability, but may include 'o pére e o musso (cold meat with salt and lemon) or a pizzette (small pizza).
After leaving the market, cut down Spaccanapoli, a straight narrow street that bisects Naples Old Town. The tour ends at the centrally-located Piazza Dante. Before you part ways with your guide, take recommendations on the best pizzerias and restaurants, where you can indulge in even more delicious Neapolitan cuisine.
Three, two, one, lets start for a guided tour with a different flavor, and its not a manner of speaking...Neapolitan culture and tradition are strictly rooted in the food, also in that we call street food, a practical and fast custom but only for those who eat; those who prepare must be expert, patient and take care in choosing the raw materials.
The recipes have remained unchanged over time. Coffee is always served with the 3C; pizza, even if it is the most copied and consumed product in the world, remains faithful to its traditional preparation, so much so that it has become UNESCO heritage.
From sweet to savory you'll be spoiled for choice.
The first dilemma arises with the sfogliatella, frolla or riccia? Soft or crunchy but always with a rich and tasty filling that originates in a monastery in the historic center in the distant 1600s and which is still today one of the masterpieces of Neapolitan pastry art to be combined with an inevitable coffee. And when we talk about coffee, let us decide how it should be.
The tour starts in the streets of the historic center with stories and anecdotes that tell the soul of Naples, from cooking to singing, from folklore to poetry, from art to traditions.
When the hour of aperitif arrives, the right pause is in front of a tarallo 'nzogna e pepe, accompanied by a beer or a glass of Campania wine.
Now, is the time of His Majesty, the Pizza, prepared by a master pizza-maker as the tradition commands.
Our goodbye is served together with a brilliant baba, and let us offer you a coffee again.
