FAQ
* Da Baracca - A real bargain gem, with tables on the only truly locals' piazza in Amalfi, surrounded by the fruit stands, butcher shops, and alimentari that ensure your food will be fresh. In cooler weather, you can sit under the fishing nets of the glassed-in veranda listening to records of Neapolitan guitar music... Piazza degli Dogi (off the left of Piazza del Duomo, duck under the arched street and bear right). tel. +39-089-871-285. Closed Mon. » more

* La Caravella - If you're feeling the heady dolce vita and want to splash out, head to this least chillingly-priced of Amalfi's fine seafood restaurants. A refined setting for over 30 years, Caravella's stuccoed rooms, discreet service, ample wine list, and subtly flavored dishes are steeped in Amalfitani tradition. Don't miss their renowned lemon soufflé... Via Matteo Camera 12 (under the tunnel on the main Amalfi Drive into the port). tel. +39-089-871-029. www.ristorantelacaravella.it. Closed Tues and Nov. » more

Da Maria - Da Maria is a standby on the main drag in the center of town, filling a cavernous pair of whitewashed rooms that are scattered with tables and look vaguely like an upscale cafeteria. The excellent pizza has great crust and is the true bargain here... Via Lorenzo di Amalfi (just off Piazza del Duomo). tel. +39-089-871-880. www.amalfitrattoriadamaria.com. Closed Mon. » more

Il Tarí - Il Tarí's two packed rooms on Amalfi's main street are separated by duck-your-head arches that do nothing to ebb the flow of noisy babble in Italian and a half dozen tourist tongues. Its location and prices draw the crowds, but it has a cozier, friendlier atmosphere than the vast Da Maria down the block. The pizzas are excellent... Via P. Capuano 9–11 (a continuation of Via Cavour, the main road into town). tel. +39-089-871-832. www.amalfiristorantetari.it. Closed Mon. » more
